For young people who have grown up in orphanages and state care centres, transition into independent living can be a confronting stage of life. To make this process smooth and stress-free, this project provides intermediate accommodation and workshops to give these young people the necessary study opportunities or job-ready skills to thrive under their own drive.
The transition centre has capacity to provide accommodation for 6 female adolescents for up to two years, as well as extending its personal development programs to external participants within the vicinity. Services and activities comprise of:
- Life and vocational skills training
- Educational scholarships and tuition
- Mentoring programs focusing on financial management, rights & responsibilities, future planning, empowerment and self-esteem building
- Preventative health workshops (including contraception and sex education)
- Job creation and career counselling
- Income-generating business creation
Key Areas of Expenditure:
- Development of training program
- Staffing costs of social workers, case managers, psychologist, night career, administration officer, centre coordinator
- Scholarship funding
- Accommodation expenses
- Market research for business implementation
- Partnership networking with services, agencies and potential employees
