Female Empowerment and Reintegration – Restoration Following Commercial Sexual Exploitation

Due to a history of violence and a compromised capacity for law and order, issues of commercial sexual exploitation, rape and gender inequality run rampant in Cambodia.  ‘Bauk’ (premeditated gang rape) is on the rise and recent studies show that 1 in 5 Cambodian men aged 18-49 have admitted to sexual abuse.  Sadly, girls aged 11-14 comprise the most likely victims as they are targeted for their virginity.

Such delinquency has led to the establishment of a sanctuary in the nation’s capital, Phnom Penh.  Victims of commercial sexual exploitation begin the process of healing and restoration for a full and fulfilling life within the secure walls of a safety-house.  Once stabilised, dedicated staff continue to provide emotional and physical care services, well-planned reintegration to their families and referrals to long-term partner agencies in order to prevent the risk of falling back into trafficking rings.
