Domestic Violence

Many Mongolian women are suffering in silence as domestic violence sweeps the nation in endemic proportions. National statistics reveal that as many as one in three have been victims of such abuse at least once in their life. Although evidences of past attacks are difficult to conceal, many believe the issue is a private matter thereby making intervention and legislation difficult to enforce.

This project works with police, politicians and social welfare agencies to raise community awareness of domestic violence and reduce its tolerance through targeted prevention programs backed by Members of Parliament and community leaders. Safety houses have been established as women’s refuges and outreach teams are partnering with prison authorities to minimise recidivism.

Furthermore, life skills’ workshops are offered to ex-prisoners to improve employability and help them through the reintegration process. The ultimate aim is to reduce cultures of criminality, restore healthy family relationships and strengthen individuals to be positive contributors to society.
