Dalit Education

The worldview of the Indian people towards the Dalit (lowest caste) means that they are denied the basic human right to education. As global awareness has increased, international pressure has brought about some level of equality by reserving some places in educational institutions and government employment. However these opportunities are limited and many Dalits must face the reality of rejection from schools and universities. Unschooled and unskilled, they are forced to take low-paying jobs in the informal sector where the only attainable jobs are dirty, dangerous or degrading.

In contrast, the worldview we instill in these imminent lives is one of equality. They are given the opportunity for personal advancement up the rungs of societal hierarchy and into a career where they will flourish. This is done through the provision of scholarships to primary and secondary students to attend high quality schools. In addition, adults will participate in microenterprise projects, self-help groups, access microfinance, vocational training and ‘job-creation’ IT programs.
