Community Child Wellbeing Centre

Although Zimbabwe is ranked among the best in Africa for literacy rates, premature school dropout and subsequent income insecurity are rampant. Credit facilities have little on offer for those who lack collateral security, thereby limiting their earning potential due to lack of investment. Some are labour constrained, whilst others are labour endowed; but almost all destitute Zimbabweans are food poor and without means to support their household.

At the Community Resource Centre, orphans and vulnerable children attend non-formal education classes to ‘catch-up’ to the mainstream school system. Caregivers are invited to participate in regular workshops on topics such as health and hygiene, family planning, child safety and nutrition. Economic strengthening is simultaneously provided as a ‘starting point’ into the job market, incorporating hard skills such as sewing, market vending and mushroom production, as well as soft skills such as team building, conflict management, record keeping, business modeling and financial management.
